If there’s one thing I love about road trips, it’s the unexpected surprises you stumble on.After heading out for our last stop of the day after enjoying a fantastic buffet at "Pebbles" in Verne (you can check out the full review over on my other blog, aycetoronto.blogspot.ca), we decided to take a chance and check out Luther Marsh Wildlife Management Area, before the sun went down.
True, we didn’t have tons of time to spare since dusk was fast approaching, we were absolutely stunned by the raw, peaceful beauty of this place. In fact, my partner said it was the most beautiful place he had seen in a long time. The calm water reflecting the blue sky, surrounded by stretches of wetlands and forests, created a quiet atmosphere that felt a world away from busy city life.
Luther Marsh is a biological conversation area located at the headwaters of the Grand River watershed, sitting right on the border of Dufferin and Wellington Counties near Grand Valley.
While doing some reading abuot the Luther Marsh, I found out that it is designated as a "Provincially Significant Wetland" and "National Important Bird Area". The sanctuary protects rare habitats, including bogs, fens, swamps, and cattail marshes that support over 260 recorded speices of birds, as well as deer, turtles and flying squirrels.
Even though out stay was brief, catching the sunset over the wetlands made the detour entirely worthwhile.
